Global warm-up webinar for World Hand Hygiene Day, 5 May 2026

Each year WHO’s World Hand Hygiene Day (WHHD) aims to maintain a global profile on the importance of hand hygiene and IPC in health care and to ‘bring people together’ in support of improvement globally.  In this 18th year of the campaign day, WHO calls on all those providing and supporting health care to refresh their plans and actions on hand hygiene and IPC to ensure patient and health worker safety.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To outline the importance of promoting inclusion of hand hygiene within action plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs), according to the recommendations of the WHO Global action plan and monitoring framework indicators and targets to be achieved incrementally by 2030. This includes an advocacy and communications strategy and implementation plan, supported by WHHD activities.
  • To highlight the role of experts/champions in supporting hand hygiene and IPC promotion.
  • To promote one of the WHO indicators which is - hand hygiene compliance monitoring and feedback, to be established as a key national indicator, at the very least in all reference hospitals by 2026 and tools that might support this.
  • To explore the actions and resources linked with World Hand Hygiene Day 2026 to help plan your approach.
