Kathmandu, Bagmati Province — The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), in collaboration with WHO Country Office for Nepal, organized a stakeholder webinar on 12 May 2026 to advance discussions on integrating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) interventions into Nepal’s primary health care (PHC)-oriented health system. The webinar brought together more than 35 participants, including MoHP officials, provincial health focal persons, and technical experts from WHO Headquarters, WHO South-East Asia Regional Office and WHO Nepal. Dr Roshan Neupane, Chief of the Quality Standards and Regulation Division (QSRD), MoHP, highlighted Nepal’s AMR situation and the need for an integrated response. Technical sessions, facilitated by WHO experts, explored global and national perspectives, while preliminary findings from a desk review of AMR-related interventions at the primary care level were also presented. Participants emphasized resilient and people-centered PHC systems through improved infection prevention and control, rational antimicrobial use, better access to diagnostics and antibiotics, and quality health services. The MoHP and WHO reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to collaborative action against AMR through strengthened PHC systems, ahead of a national consultation workshop on mainstreaming AMR into the PHC approach in Nepal scheduled for June 2026.
